Introduction
Meet Derek Fox, MSN, RN, VA-BC, CRNI®, NEA-BC. With an impressive background spanning emergency nursing, long-term care, pediatrics, and vascular access, Derek brings a wealth of clinical experience to the table. But it’s not just about credentials—Derek’s journey is fueled by passion.
Picture this: Derek, a nursing student, nervously starting his first IV while curious classmates watched. That moment ignited his commitment to providing top-notch infusion care. Over time, he became the go-to person for tricky IV sticks. Later, as part of an inpatient vascular access team, Derek’s passion blossomed even further where he then advanced to lead vascular access and infusion education teams nationally.
But Derek isn’t content with the status quo. His natural leadership abilities drive him to bridge knowledge gaps, advocate for continued nursing education, and offer quality learning opportunities.
The INS Connection
Derek Fox currently serves as the INS Nurse Educator. His mission? To empower clinicians and elevate infusion therapy. But that’s not all—Derek also evaluates infusion programs, ensuring they meet the rigorous standards for the coveted INS Seal of Approval.
He has also served on the National Council on Education (NCOE), where he gained valuable experience in shaping the INS annual meeting. He considers collaborating with esteemed professionals to create high-quality education sessions a true honor and privilege.
Beyond INS: A Diverse Career
Derek’s impact extends far beyond the INS. As a board-certified nurse executive, he has navigated the complex landscape of health care leadership. Compliance management, policy development, and shared governance programs are just a few of his proven successes in the leadership arena. His strategic vision has shaped high-performing clinical teams, emphasizing excellence and patient safety.
Educational Trailblazer
Education lies at the heart of Derek’s “Why?”. He has experience tailoring comprehensive programs for both novice and seasoned vascular access nurses: state-approved IV therapy courses, virtual infusion training—the list goes on. Derek’s passion lies in equipping health care professionals with the skills they need to provide safe, effective care which, in return, provides patients with the best experiences and outcomes.
Personal
Although Derek has dedicated a lot of time and attention to his career, he finds meaningful time for his family and friends, who keep him inspired. He has a spouse of 10 years who is also a nurse, and together, they have three beautiful children ages 12 (boy), 10(girl), & 9 (girl). Ask him about their adoption story.
The family resides in southern Indiana and enjoys taking family trips, frequenting amusement parks, and engaging in community events. Derek believes that everyone has a unique journey in this world that they should embrace. He believes that individuals can achieve what they put their minds to, as his personal journey has been fueled by the popular idiom, “If there’s a will, there’s a way.”
